How much does it cost to remove moss from a roof?

A typical semi-detached roof clean is £500,£900 depending on pitch, tile type and access. Detached three-storey homes run £900,£1,500. Always priced fixed after survey.

Should you remove moss from a roof in the UK?

Yes, left alone, moss holds water against tiles and accelerates freeze-thaw cracking. Removing it extends roof life and improves drainage.

Can you pressure wash a roof?

Never at standard high pressure, that strips the protective coating from tiles and forces water under the laps. Where pressure is used at all it's heavily reduced and run through a flat surface cleaner so water impact is spread evenly. Most of the work is hand-scraping plus a soft-wash biocide.

Will the moss grow back?

Treated roofs typically stay clear for 4,7 years. An annual or biennial top-up biocide spray extends that significantly.

Do you walk on the roof?

Only where strictly necessary, on roof ladders that spread load. Most surveys and cleaning are done from ground level using our Insta360 pole camera and extending lances, no scaffold needed for most jobs.

Is soft washing suitable for old render?

It is the only sensible option. Old render is often lime based and will come off under pressure. A treatment and gentle rinse leaves it intact.

Do you cover the villages around Alcester?

Yes, Great Alne, Kinwarton, Arrow and Wixford are all included.

South Warwickshire villages, soft-wash render and gentle stonework cleaning.

Doing the roof and gutters together? See our roof and gutter cleaning offer

Roof cleaning in Alcester starts from £500 for a typical semi-detached property. We use a soft-wash treatment with low-pressure methods, never destructive high pressure. Heavy moss is scraped off by hand or lifted with a flat surface cleaner dialled down to a safe low pressure, then the roof is treated with a biocide that kills spores at the root and tiles return to original colour over the following weeks. Standard high-pressure jet washing blasts away protective coatings and shortens roof life by years, we tune our kit to protect the tiles.

roof cleaning in Alcester, what we actually find here

The housing round here. Historic market town, timber-framed and Georgian property around Malt Mill Lane and the centre, with post-war and modern housing spreading towards Kinwarton and Great Alne.

Why Alcester exteriors get dirty. River Arrow damp on one side and open countryside on the other, so shaded elevations green up and exposed render takes weather staining.

Access and pricing. Narrow historic streets, so we confirm access and parking before the day rather than turning up and hoping.

Covering B49, including Great Alne, Kinwarton, Arrow, Wixford.

Why professional roof cleaning matters

Roof moss isn't just ugly, it acts like a sponge, holding water against tiles. In winter that water freezes, expands and cracks the surface. The right fix is biocide and patience, not destructive blasting. Standard high-pressure jet washing strips the factory glaze from concrete and clay tiles and voids most roof warranties. Our method uses high water flow at heavily reduced pressure to lift dirt safely, plus a specialist biocide that kills moss properly, the natural colour returns over the coming weeks as rain washes the dead growth away.
