Our roof and gutter cleaning process

Eight stages, in the order we do them, so you know exactly what you are paying for before anyone climbs anything.

Roof cleaning assessment of moss growth and safe access at a Coventry home

01

Roof assessment

We look at the roof covering, the amount of moss, the pitch and how we can safely reach it before any work is agreed.

02

Safe temporary access

Where the roof needs it we build a portable scaffold tower on the day and take it back down when the work is finished. Nothing is left in your garden for weeks.

03

Manual moss removal with profile tools

Heavy moss is removed using a double Roman profile scraper where it matches the roof. We use the correct shaped head for each tile profile, lifting growth from the channels without blasting the tile surface.

04

Debris collected, not flushed

The moss is collected into garden waste sacks or a suitable waste bin as we work, then removed from the working area. It is not flushed into your gutters, downpipes or drains.

05

Biocide treatment

Once the heavy growth is off, we use a Genie backpack and high-reach pole with a soft brush head to apply the biocidal treatment gently. There is no pressure-washing lance in this stage.

06

The treatment does the work

The biocide is left to work with the weather over the following weeks. Remaining growth dies back and washes off gradually instead of being forced off with pressure.

07

Gutter clearance

If gutters are in your quote, a high-reach vacuum head removes loose roof moss and debris from the runs. We then check the downpipes so rainwater can flow where it should.

08

Completed work and customer sign-off

We check that the roof moss has been cleared and the gutters are clean, then show you the completed work. You receive photos and a video so you can inspect the result and sign it off with confidence.

Why we don't just pressure wash your roof

A roof is not a driveway. Old concrete and clay tiles have a surface layer that took the weather for decades, and a high pressure lance takes that layer off in seconds. It looks impressive on the day. It also opens the tile up, so the next lot of moss takes hold faster than the last.

Blasting also drives water under the tiles and pushes a roof full of moss straight into your gutters and drains, which is a second problem you then have to pay someone to fix.

So we take the heavy growth off by hand, collect it, then treat the roof and let the biocide finish the job over the following weeks. Slower to look perfect, far better for the roof, and it stays clean for years rather than months.

Roof and gutter cleaning equipment we use

Portable scaffold tower used for professional roof and gutter cleaning

Portable scaffold tower

Built for the job and dismantled the same day, so difficult roofs can be reached properly instead of stretched at from a ladder.

Double Roman tile profile scrapers and brushes used for professional roof and gutter cleaning

Double Roman tile profile scrapers and brushes

A double Roman scraper follows both curved tile channels, and a profile matched brush sweeps the loosened growth clear. We match the tool head to the profile on your roof for controlled manual moss removal without blasting the tile.

Genie backpack and high-reach soft wash pole used for professional roof and gutter cleaning

Genie backpack and high-reach soft wash pole

The backpack feeds treatment to a high-reach pole and soft brush head for an even, controlled application without pressure washing the tiles.

Hyundai gutter vacuum system used for professional roof and gutter cleaning

Hyundai gutter vacuum system

A high-powered wet and dry vacuum with carbon poles and a curved head removes moss and debris from ground level, with camera checks where access allows.

High level and awkward access is covered by IPAF trained powered access, so a difficult roof does not mean a compromised job.

Is my roof suitable?

Every roof is assessed on its own. Before we quote we look at:

  • Roof covering and its condition
  • Pitch of the roof
  • How much moss is actually there
  • Safe access and working conditions
  • Nearby property, cars and planting
  • Where the water and debris will drain

If we do not believe roof cleaning is the right thing for your roof, we will tell you and we will not take the job.
