Quick answer

Can gutter cleaning help stop gutters overflowing?

Yes, when a blockage is causing the overflow. Clearing the inside gives rainwater a route towards the downpipe. Leaking joints or damaged fittings may need separate attention, so cleaning alone is not always the whole answer.

A website enquiry and a gutter corner needing attention

The homeowner contacted DY Exterior Cleaning through Isabel, our website live chat assistant. David rang straight away to arrange the booking and visited the next day.

Alongside the cleaning, a corner section needed attention. Two supporting brackets had come loose because their screws had rotted away. This was a job that needed a small repair as well as a clear-out.

How David tackled the job

  • Used hand cleaning throughout because roof tiles had slid forward, leaving too little space for the gutter vacuum head.

  • Slid most of the tiles back enough, one by one, to reach inside the runs.

  • Lifted out dirt, leaves, moss, soggy mud and silt by hand, collecting it in a bucket.

  • Replaced the brackets at the corner section and waterproofed the fixing holes where there was a slight gap.

The finished result

The finished runs had visible gutter bottoms rather than a packed layer of debris. The corner was firmly supported again, with the repair completed as part of the visit.

The customer left a 5 star review.
