Quick answer

Will gutter cleaning stop water overflowing?

Cleaning can stop overflowing where a build-up is blocking the path of rainwater. It will not fix every cause, though. Damaged fittings or poorly positioned guttering may need separate attention.

Gutter problems after moving in

The new occupant of this Coventry home noticed water spilling over the gutters and leaking in places. They had gone years without cleaning under the previous occupants, so the customer needed help getting them back in order.

The work was split across visits to help spread the cost. A further visit was arranged for the end of the month.

What David did

  • Used a gutter vac to remove the build-up from inside the guttering.

  • Worked from a ladder to manually remove broken tile pieces and cement stuck in the run.

  • Applied gutter sealant to repair the leaking section. This avoided a replacement part costing over £50 because of the ogee shape.

The finished result

The finished runs had an open channel beneath the roof edge, with the gutter base visible along their length. Rainwater had space to travel through rather than meeting a packed layer of debris.
